On the 23 January, the JURI Committee will hold a public hearing on "Standard Essential Patent and the Internet of Things". The hearing will follow up on the 2017 Commission's communication 'IP package' containing a Communication 'Setting out the EU approach to Standard Essential Patents'.
A patent licensing system that is conducive to the roll-out of the Internet of Things is key in placing Europe as a global leader on the new technologies market. Standards Essential Patents have a central role to play in that respect, for the benefit of European innovators, patent implementers and end-users alike. The event will aim at hearing experts on the issues at stake and on developments since the publication of the Communication.
